Dr. Murphy is a healthcare change agent with social work and medical training, combining a unique set of skills and approach that he has honed into a refined clinical and business acumen focused on Healthcare Strategy and Operations.
Dr. Murphy spent the last eight years leading the Palliative Care Institute for a seven-state, 53-Hospital health system where he launched and led the inaugural enterprise-level leadership council, various process improvement workgroups, and a targeted system optimization effort that improved access and quality of services, tripled the numbers of lives served, and demonstrating a 5:1 financial return on investment
($157M direct costs saved in final year).
During his 25+ years in healthcare, Dr. Murphy has built and led behavioral health and palliative care consultation teams in 10 states for several large health systems, and along the way, designed and launched the first, free-standing Palliative Care Clinic in Washington State and in 2021 designed and launched a TelePalliative Care Consultation Service (TelePC) to Critical Access Hospitals (CAH) in rural Washington in provision of real-time, interdisciplinary Palliative Care to the most remote regions of Washington, and their surrounding communities.
